What is Bullying?During Term Three each class developed their own definition of bullying. The Junior School Council then took all of the definitions and combined them into a whole school definition.
Whole School Definition Bullying is an ongoing action in which an individual is harmed in a physical, verbal or social manner by other people. This makes students feel unsafe, unhappy, like they don't fit in and it makes them feel undervalued. Prep MA Bullying is when someone hurts your feelings, body or property more than one or two times, on purpose. Bullying makes you feel sad and not safe anymore. Sometimes somebody might me mean to you once or by accident. That is not bullying, that is just someone not being a good friend. They might need to think about what they are doing and learn more about being a good friend. We can teach people how to be a good friend and use the ‘Hand of Strategies’ to fix the problem”. Prep H Bullying is when someone hurts you lots of times. They can hurt your feelings or your body. They don't stop when you ask them and do it on purpose. They are not being a good friend 1/2CIn 1/2C we pooled our ideas in a Padlet as to what bullying is and came up with the following definition: You can see our padlet here; http://padlet.com/wall/8uf23g8r6d Bullying is when you disrespect someone and it causes that person to be physically or emotionally hurt. Bullying can involve such things as kicking, punching, yelling, teasing, ignoring and laughing at someone. Bullying can cause permanent scarring and often when someone is bullied, they become more likely to end up being a bully themselves. 1/2K Bullying is repeated and unwanted behaviours that somebody does towards somebody else even when they are told to stop! 1/2BT "We think bullying is when you keep repeating bad behaviour and hurt other peoples feelings or their body (or both)." 3/4F There are three types of bullying: Physical Bullying: When someone hurts your body by pushing, shoving, hitting or kicking. Emotional Bullying: Saying mean or racist comments about someone, swearing at them or teasing them repeatedly. Cyber Bullying: Using technology to tease someone multiple times. It could be continued the next day at school or online. All three types of bullying are ongoing and repetitive.
